The Merriam Theater is an iconic theater located in the downtown and cultural district of Center City, Philadelphia. Built in 1918, the Merriam Theater was once known as the Sam S. Shubert Theater until 1972 when the name was changed to its present name.

The Merriam Theater is the city’s most continuous location for Broadway shows touring through the area. Many iconic Broadway productions play at the Merriam Theater. The theater occasionally hosts other theatrical productions and musicals.
